Interview process and Testing Day Schedule

Testing will be one day in length, from 08:00-17:30. The day's schedule can be broken down as follows:

  • 08:00 - Candidates will arrive at Avon Fire Station for orientation briefing and schedule for the Day. They will receive an orientation to the fire district, question and answer session, and testing release paperwork will be completed.

  • Candidates will view a movie showing how to complete the Physical Agility Test. We recommend that candidates wear sport clothing, preferably warm-ups or sweat pants, due to portions of the test that require kneeling. Candidates should be prepared for any type of weather; warm and clear, rain, or snow.

  • 09:00 - The Physical Agility Test is given.

  • 11:00-1200 - Interview and written test time schedule will be distributed to candidates.  A tour of the fire district and ERFPD stations will be conducted between the agility test and interviews. Resident Firefighters will conduct the tour, and will be available to answer any questions about the program or living in the area.

  • 11:00-17:30 - Interviews and written test. The two hour written portion of the test will be given, and will consist of a civil service type test, which will evaluate candidate's reasoning, mechanical and scholastic abilities. Panel interviews with each candidate will last for about 20-30 minutes. Resumes, letters and other documents may be presented at this time.  All candidates should be finished with the testing process by 17:30 that day.
