Overview
Eagle River Fire Protection District’s nationally recognized resident program provides premiere training and education for men and women seeking a career in the fire service industry. Our apprenticeship program immerses residents into the lifestyle of a firefighter, allowing them to develop top-level emergency service skills and certifications. ERFPD prepares its students for a professional career through outstanding training, education and real world experience.
After an intensive 12 week academy, our resident firefighters live in one of six working fire stations and regularly respond to actual emergencies with professional firefighters, giving them a one-of-a-kind hands-on experience before becoming a professional firefighter. Each resident lives in his/her own bedroom within one of the fire stations and shares a living space with fellow residents. The District pays the tuition for Resident Firefighters for an Associates Degree is Fire Science at Colorado Mountain College. In addition, the District provides state certification training including Colorado Firefighter One and Two, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Driver/Operator (operation of fire equipment) all at no cost.
