Fire Prevention and Administrative Offices Move
In an effort to expand service in Avon, the District has moved the Fire Prevention and Administrative offices from the Avon Fire Station to 90 Benchmark Road, Suite 101 in the White River Center; which is just about 300 yards east of the Avon Fire Station. This move has allowed us to expand staffing at the station and increase the service level to the Avon community. All phone numbers have remained the same, with the exception of the fax number. The new fax number for Fire Prevention and Administration is (970) 949-7965
New Ladder Truck On the Way
The District has recently placed an order for a new 100 foot aerial ladder truck to replace the 1981 ladder truck currently in service. Several reliability issues and metal softening concerns have made it necessary to replace the ladder truck.
The new ladder truck, a 100 foot Pierce pumper/ladder truck is scheduled to be delivered in July 2008.
Two New Pumpers Keep Fleet Reliable and Modern
In an effort to keep the fleet reliable and modern, the District has taken delivery of two new pumpers as of September 2007. This acquisition has put two new modern trucks at the busiest stations - Edwards and Avon. These new pumpers replace two 22 year old fire trucks. The new fire trucks are equipped with tools and equipment that allow firefighters to respond to a variety of incidents, including Jaws of Life tools to remove victims of automobile accidents, structural fire and fires involving flammable liquids. These new trucks are also equipped with on-board electrical generators – if you see them operating at night, you will certainly notice the large vertical light tower. These lighting systems enable firefighters to work where no lighting or electrical power exists and are powerful enough to illuminate an entire football field.
The Board of Directors have approved one of the old pumpers be donated to the Colorado Mountain College Fire Science Degree program.
New Wildland Truck Called Into Action
As of July 2007, the District has taken delivery of a second “Type 6” wildland engine. The new wildland truck was in service only a few days when it was called into action to combat a 5 acre fire above the Singletree Subdivision on July 3. The specifications are very similar to resources at the Federal level, enhancing interoperability when mutual aid is necessary. |
